Registering a business in Ghana

Business registration is overseen by the Registrar General's Department (RGD). Applications may be submitted directly by visiting and creating an account on the RGD's online portal. An overview of the incorporation process and access to free incorporation resources and guides are provided below.

Incorporation Overview

The typical process for incorporating a business in Nigeria is outlined below. Steps in the process, timelines and costs, may vary based on the specifics of the business being registered. It is recommended that companies with any share of foreign participation register using an Accredited Agent.

1

Determine Business Structure

Before you register, compare permitted business structures, their requirements, your eligibility, and any industry-related, licensing restrictions (common for financial services, oil & gas, and other regulated sectors).
2

Register Business Name

After confirming its availability, register your business name by completing and submitting the form via the RGD portal.
3

Obtain TIN for Members

At the time of registration, the company and its directors, shareholders, officers and any other members, including corporate bodies, must have a Personal Identification Number 'PIN’ or Tax Identification Number ('TIN') issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority ('GRA'). Any individual or corporate body may apply for one through GRA by completing the relevant Taxpayer Registration Form(s) as instructed in this step.
4

Prepare Registration Application

To prepare your application for submission, you must complete RGD Form 3 - Private Limited and provide any supplemental forms and materials as instructed. You may complete this process online through your RGD account or in-person at an RGD location.
5

Pay Fees and Submit Application

Once you've completed your registration application, you are ready to submit your application to RGD. You will pay all necessary fees at the time of submitting your application.
6

Collect Approved Incorporation Documents

You have seven days from the date of the approval to download your incorporation documents directly from your RGD Account at no charge. After seven days, you will be required to pay a fee to access and download your incorporation documents.
